Spurs Win Game 3 at MSG, Cut Knicks Lead to 2–1

The San Antonio Spurs beat the New York Knicks 115–111 at Madison Square Garden on Monday night, cutting the NBA Finals series to 2–1. San Antonio came out and took the first quarter 33–22. The Knicks responded in the second and outscored the Spurs 42–24 to flip the game around, but San Antonio came back out of halftime and won the third quarter 35–27. New York never got the lead back. The Spurs held on in the fourth 23–20 and walked out of MSG with the win. Victor Wembanyama finished with 32 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 3 blocks. He shot 11-of-18 from the field and hit both threes he attempted. Wembanyama capitalized on New York’s mistakes throughout the night as the Spurs turned 13 Knicks turnovers into 21 points. After being largely contained in the first two games, Wembanyama took over in game 3. Stephon Castle added 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting and De'Aaron Fox scored 12 but had 8 assists and only had two turnovers. Julian Champagnie came off the bench and hit 3-of-7 from three for 12 points. San Antonio's bench outscored New York's bench 25–22. Jalen Brunson put up 32 points but needed 25 shots to get there and turned the ball over 5 times. He had a minus-9 plus/minus on the night. The Knicks as a team had 13 turnovers and scored only 7 points off San Antonio's 8 turnovers. The Spurs scored 21 off New York's. OG Anunoby was the best Knick on the floor with 28 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Karl-Anthony Towns had 11 points and 8 rebounds. Josh Hart had 16 points and 9 rebounds but picked up a technical foul. Mikal Bridges went 1-of-5 for 2 points. The Knicks still lead 2–1 and have Game 4 at home Wednesday night. San Antonio has now won on the road in this series and will come in with confidence.
